Brown Sugar Scrub Recipe

It's important to note that this recipe is what I used and you should feel free to experiment with different oils and scrub options to find what you like best.

In this recipe, I use brown sugar because it is the least abrasive of all of the sugars making it great for sensitive skin. Sugars, salts and coffee grounds are common scrub options just be sure to know how your drains will handle what you put down them. For instance, coffee grounds can clog a drain but they are a very popular choice in scrubs. Also, oils aren't always the best for drains. Be sure to run piping hot water down your drain after your scrub to prevent clogging.

My brown sugar scrub recipe

1 bag of brown sugar

6 oz of coconut oil

4 oz of hemp seed oil

1/2 tbsp of essential oil of your choice

This makes 40 ounces of brown sugar scrub.

Step 1: weigh out your brown sugar in a large glass bowl

Step 2: weigh out your oils in a glass measuring cup

Step 3: fill a pot partially with water. Put your measuring cup into the water and turn the burner on. you are creating a double boiler effect. heating the oils with direct heat could scorch the oils.

Step 4: once oils are melted, add in your essential oils. I like to use Revive Essential oils  or essential oils from Candles and supplies in Quakertown, Pa. When buying essential oils make sure they are pure by requesting third party testing proof.

Step 5: pour melted oils over your brown sugar and mix until all the sugar is wet. Test your brown sugar scrub before adding more oil, it may look dry but it may be oily enough.

Remember to have fun with making your sugar scrub. Use your favorite oils, you can enough try using olive oil or avocado oil. Play around with the recipe and make it your own. Don't forget to write down your changes so you can make the scrub again when you run out. Feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns thefreshsoap@gmail.com
