How to make your own Oat Milk.

Oat milk is great to drink and it's also great for your skin.

But did you know you can make oat milk yourself?

The only two ingredients needed are water and oats.

The more water you use less potent it will be.

The trick to making oat milk yourself is not blending it too much.

Blending for 30 to 40 seconds is a good amount of blend time.

It is also important to remember you are making oat milk and not oatmeal. Be sure to use cold water when blending oats to make oat milk.

This will also prevent slimy oat milk.

For the oat milk I make and put in my products I use a 3 to 1 ratio.

3 cups of water to 1 cup of oats.

To make oat milk you do need a blender. Add your cold water and oats to a blender and blend for 30 to 40 seconds. Again, its important to not over blend this will result in slimy oat milk.

After blending you will need to strain your oats out of the milk. Its important to note that nut bags and strainers are usually not a good product to use for straining because the holes are too big. A cotton t-shirt will work great for straining the oats out of the milk.

Drape your cloth over a bowl or cup and pour in the oat milk. Then slowly twist the cloth to strain the milk out, leaving the milled oats behind.

This may take a little time so be patient, rushing the process will result in a mess or oat pieces in your milk.

Once you are done straining the oats your milk is ready to use.

If you are drinking it you may want to flavor it with vanilla extract, cinnamon, etc.

If you are using your oat milk to soak dry skin or eczema patches there is no need to strain it. Using the oats and the milk will be great for your skin.

The wet strained oats are not just garbage. Here at The Fresh Soap, I believe everything is usable (to an extent, of course.)

To dry your oats, you can bake them on the lowest temperature setting your oven has. A good amount of bake time is 4-6 hours.

Spread your wet oats out on a cookie sheet or baking pan.

At this stage, they will be similar to a paste.

When they are done drying, you can put the dried pasted oats in a blender to mill them down.

The milled oats can be used in baking recipes as a flour substitute, put on top of yogurt or adding to a soap like I use them.

Making your own oat milk does not take much time or effort.

Let me know if you give it a try and what you use your milled oats for.
